Printing in MacOS X Panther 10.3.2
by Anonymous on Tue, 02/03/2004 - 22:20
I am new to jEdit but very impressed with it (this as a long-time fan of nedit). However, when I bring up the Print dialog, all options except printer choice and margins are greyed out (orientation, duplexing, page-range, copies, etc). Can anyone help? (jEdit 4.1; JavaVM 1.4.2)
Sort of fixed in CVS
by Anonymous on Fri, 06/02/2004 - 01:38
This bug has been sort of fixed in CVS. The problem is in the file MacOSPlugin.java. Unfortunately, the fix does not call the compareStrings function correctly. The new call should look like:

if (MiscUtilities.compareStrings(
    System.getProperty("mrj.version"),mrjversion,false) < 0)

The copy in CVS is missing the third argument.

You will need to get the appropriate revision of the source code and the build tool ant, fix MacOSPlugin.java, compile jEdit, compile the MacOS jar, and then move the MacOS.jar to your jEdit installation.

Works OK for me with jEdit 4.2pre8.
jEdit 4.2pre8/Mac OS X Menu Bar Placement Error After Java 1.4.2
by Anonymous on Wed, 04/02/2004 - 17:46
As with the previous post, I am also having problems with the Mac OS X Look and Feel. In my case, the only thing affected is the placement of the menu bar. During startup, I recieve the following error message: "Mac OS Plugin reuires a newer version of Java (MRJ 3.2)." I am running jEdit 4.2pre8, which still works fine (except the placement of the menu bar is now "normal."

OS: Mac OS X (10.3.2) running on PowerBook G4 867MHz w/ 640MB RAM.

I am unsure if this should be posted as a bug, so any comment are welcomed. Thanks for all the hard work!

Dan

There are a couple bugs for this in the plugin bugtracker on SourceForge.

Same problems here - "upgraded" to 1.4.2 and jEdit 4.2pre8 and 4.2pre7
don't behave properly on a PB 1 GHz running OS X 10.3.2 ... same error
dialog and miscellaneous strange behavior (open documents are no longer
remembered on close and restart of jEdit as before "upgrade" etc.).

...

4.2pre9 works now

...at least, it seems to have solved all the issues I was experiencing (up-thread).

Same specs as you.
The Mac OS Plugin version is 3.0b.

Same here

downloaded the update and a lot changed (for the worse). I also can't drag any files to Jedit via the dock and have them open. Poopie!

Anybody know how to downgrade?

Yeah, downgrading is possible

Yeah, downgrading is possible. I was in the same situation as you, but I had to fix it quickly since I use jEdit as my editor at work.

Basically you just have to delete (or at least move to a backup) all the Java files on your mac, then go install the Panther version of Java again.

Specifically you need to get rid of /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework and probably the Java stuff in /Applications/Utilities/. Doesn't hurt to kill the prefs and stuff for it too.
