jEdit 4.2.pre9 on Java 1.5.0 beta - NoClassDefFound

I recently installed the Java 1.5.0 beta on my Linux machine. jEdit 4.1.final seems to have no problems with it, but when I try to run jEdit 4.2.pre9, I get this error:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: error:

Note that this is the only line printed. There is no stack trace or any other information. Odd, isn't it? Has anyone been able to duplicate this problem?

I did some more investigating with this, and it seems to be some kind of odd problem with BeanShell. I keep getting NoClassDefFoundError with bsh/UtilEvalError, even though bsf.UtilEvalError is clearly on my CLASSPATH. I finally fixed the problem by recompiling jEdit from scratch using the Java 1.5.0 SDK.

I'm having a similar problem but just to make it really weird--my laptop (running WinXP SP1 and Java JDK 1.4) has this problem, but my desktop, using the same version of windows and the same installation file for Java, doesn't.

I have set the CLASSPATH variable 9 ways to Sunday, and jEdit doesn't seem to want to see it. If I use the -cp switch on the java command line and put in my class path (which is also in the Windows Env. Vars, and in the startup option for jEdit), it will work.

I guess I'll try downloading Java 1.5 and recompiling like Trevor.

Just thought I'd put my little data on the issue in. Smiling

In Windows, you can just double-click the .jar file in Windows Explorer and it runs without errors.

Shouldn't you be using Javaw (not Java) to run this? I kept getting this same error using the command >\:java {JarFile}, but when I use javaw {JarFile} it works.

Also, you can just double-click the .jar file in Windows Explorer and it runs without errors.
