Just my .02 but I think this is one of the only things really missing from Jedit. Seems like a no brainer. Kind of clunky to use regex for such an everyday thing. I use this kind of thing regularly for HTML clean up. Just wanted to cast my vote for including this.

Yeah, I know I could do it w/regexes. That would just take far more time in many cases. It's common for me to have to clean up/alter someone else's (X)HTML, and very often I'll need to replace a raft of table/font tag cruft--8-10 lines isn't unusual. To through all that--esp. densely nested tags from some WYSIWYG--and escape what needs to be escaped and add all the rest of it can take a bit of time. Simply cutting and pasting a multi-line selection is much faster.

That method would at least avoid escaping characters, but it still would require one to deal with various newline characters depending on those used in the file. It seems like that could get irksome, particularly for someone who's often working with files created on multiple platorms that use god-only-knows what style of line breaks.

Actually I miss this too, although rarely.

One way to do this with a single word is to use same kind of system as UltraEdit has. It has special characters that can be used in search and replace strings:

^b Matches a page break
^p Matches a newline (CR/LF) (paragraph) (DOS Files)
^r Matches a newline (CR Only) (paragraph) (MAC Files)

^t Matches a tab character
