I have developed a smaller, cleaner, and 4.2-savvy version of Vimulator. It's called Jim.

A prototype is available here http://people.type-z.org/seb/bordel/Jim-dec-04.tar.bz2, I still have problem with dead keys.

I've tried to move along from vim to a full-featured IDE a couple of times now, but have always ended up with vim again. Sure, there's the vi plugin for Eclipse, but I find Eclipse quite sluggish to use. There's also the vimpart external editor component for Kate/KDevelop, but I find it quite buggy and slow at it's current state. I need something a bit less heavyweight than Eclipse/KDevelop, but with more features than CL vim or gvim.. With some improvements, this plugin could be just what I'm looking for. Actually, if no new releases were to appear in the future, I would consider implementing what I'm missing myself (when I get the time).

I'm currently talking to Mike Dillon about CVS access, but until that happens, you can find my latest changes here (http://www.halfsane.com/jedit/). I hope to get the changes (or some subset of them) pushed back into CVS and get Vimulator active again.

I'm just playing around with jEdit at the moment, and like you I'm a long term vim user. From what I've seen of jEdit, I like it and I'd be interested in the Vimulator.
