Change from 2 monitors to 1 monitor will result in an hidden search window (still on mon 2)
Submitted by Augur on Thursday, 10 November, 2005 - 20:20
Hi.

If I deactivate my second monitor in XP the search window still stays on the deactivated screen. How can I get it back without the use of an second monitor?

THX, Nils

I'm having the same problem. WinXP, laptop (primary) + external display (secondary). Seems jEdit 'thinks' the desktop is still extended.

The only way I've been able to retrieve the window, is to set my laptop's (primary) display resolution to something *super-wide*; scroll over and grab the window.

This is really really annoying.

blame it on windows

That is not a problem of jEdit or something you could fix with jEdit config. It is windows that gets "confused" with more than one monitor. I saw, for example, that if I sent my laptop to sleep and wake it up again without the 2dn monitor the desktop looks really wrecked: all the applications are resized and many have "forgot" child windows on the other monitor.

long life to X-Windows

but only jedit can fix it

It is a problem of both. jEdit should test the screen size and move all windows that are out of the normal screen back to the main window. This are only some lines of code. That XP do not handle this stands on another page...

Is there ANY fix for this?

Is there any way to fix this without messing with display settings? I "lost" my search window in my 2-laptop configuration at work and nothing would get it back (restarting jEdit included). Luckily I brought my laptop home and connected it to a monitor where the lost window appeared when summoned (Ctrl+F)! However, this solution won't work for everyone who encounters this issue. In my case, neither display (at work or home) could be made any larger, so I was just lucky that the search window appeared when I asked for it.

Is there some file in the .jedit or program folder that handles window positions? If so, would deleting it resolve this?
