Java version in Console PATH
Submitted by mhkay on Monday, 24 April, 2006 - 23:31
When I use the "java" command from the console, it brings up JDK 1.3. When I look at the PATH environment variable, my JDK 1.3 installation directory has been added at the start of the path. I want my default java to be JDK 1.5. Is there any way I can change this behaviour?

change PATH

I guess it's not jedit-dependent and the PATH environment variable contains Your JDK 1.3 installation directory also outside of jedit?

If so, try to change this directory in the PATH or delete it from the PATH. Under Windows (NT, XP) the java.exe, javaw.exe and javaws.exe are copied to the Windows\system32 directory at java installation time. So the java directory has not to be in the path.

JDK 1.3 on PATH

Thanks for responding. But no: outside JEdit, JDK 1.3 is not on my PATH. It only appears there when I use the jEdit console.

I have got rid of the problem temporarily by uninstalling JDK 1.3. But I will need to reinstall it at some time for testing purposes, so it would be nice to work out what's going on here.

In wich way do You start jedi

In wich way do You start jedit? May be the PATH is added by a batchfile before launching jedit...
Look in the activity.log for a line like "[message] Log: java.home=C:\Programme\Java\jdk1.5.0_06\jre" to see wich java is used for running jedit.

Or is there any plugin changing the PATH? Try removing almost all plugins for a test.
