Wrong Cursor Image with Ubuntu Linux

I use jEdit 4.2 with Ubuntu Linux 6.10 and Java RE 1.5. The cursor image does not seem to be sensitive of the respective GUI's area, instead it is the arrow pointer in the whole left part of the application's window, and in the right part it becomes the I-beam, from top to bottom of the window. I did not experience this behaviour under Windows.

Confirmed on Ubuntu Dapper with java 1.5.0_06 and JEdit 4.3pre8.

At first I thought the cursor's behaviour was inverted, but that doesn't seem to be it. It seems to be affected by popup windows, sometimes the gutter, arbitrary vertical invisible lines about a third into the text area, docked windows, etc. I just reinstalled thinking it was some of my settings, but with minimal settings changes, it still happens. The only plugins I have installed now are BufferList and EditorScheme. Disabling these don't help. If I close JEdit and re-open it again, the problem comes back in seconds.

I have had this on another computer months ago, but the problem went away again by itself. Back then I thought it was because I'm on amd64, but now I'm running a 32bit version of ubuntu.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, because this is extremely annoying...

After un- and reinstallation

After un- and reinstallation of jEdit this problem seems to have vanished. I don't know, what the cause was...
