Resizing the main window on Fedora
Submitted by chmac on Saturday, 20 January, 2007 - 19:22
I've installed Jedit 4.3pre8 and Jedit 4.2 on Fedora Core 6 and I have the same problem with both. The main window open arounds 800x600 pixels, and if I resize the window or maximize it, I just get empty space around the window. The application stays the original size, and the space around it is unusable.

I've seen screenshots of Jedit and obviously you can use the whole screen! I'm using Sun's JDK v1.5.0.9 with the jpackage compatible rpm. Other Java apps are running find.

I've searched but can't find anyone with a similar problem or a solution. Can anyone suggest any routes of investigation or solutions?

Cheers - Callum.

I don't just want to be a me-too poster, but I am having the same problems also!

I don't see anything in the logs, or if I start jedit from the command line Sad I am not really sure what else I can check though, but I am going to try maybe azureus (being another java program) and see if it has the same problem.

Work Around

I'm using Beryl on Ubuntu 6.10 and I have the resizing issue. My workaround is to load up jEdit, then from the Beryl Manager, I 'Select my Window Manager from Beryl->Metacity', resize jEdit, and then switch back. From here on I can resize my main jEdit window to my hearts content. BUT! If in jEdit I go 'File->Open..' I cannot resize the open dialog.

The window border resizes, but the layout manager isn't redistributing the widths/heights/x/y etc. Maybe this will help...maybe not. I suspect the root of the problem has something to do with a 'resize window event' not hooking/firing within the layout manager.

I love jEdit and will continue to use it regardless! Smiling

I am having the same problem, but only when XGL is enabled ("Desktop effects").

I have no clues, but I think you'd better have a look at your activity.log file in the jedit settings directory, and see if there are any errors logged.
Also, it's better to start jedit from the command line and look at the exceptions it generates... then, if you have no clues on what the messages mean, post them and let's try to understand!
