ftp plugin throws jsch-exception: failed to send channel request
Submitted by sven2 on Monday, 14 September, 2009 - 11:42
I'm using the latest Version of JEdit (4.3pre17) and the corresponding FTP-plugin (0.9.5) under java 1.6.0_16. When I'm trying to connect to my server using sftp, it fails reporting the following i/o error message:

Cannot list directory: java.io.IOException: com.jcraft.jsch.JSchException: failed to send channel request

Here is the excerpt of the log file:

I also tried this with older versions of JEdit an the ftp plugin, e.g. with JEdit 4.2final and ftp 0.7.3. It doesn't work either, though throwing a different error. I even downloaded the latest version of JSch and replaced the version in the jar directory of JEdit, resulting in the same error message. I don't know what's going wrong, maybe somebody out there has any ideas? Please help cause I'm out of options...

Thanks in advance,
sven

Same issue for me
by deathtoll2001 on Tue, 20/10/2009 - 14:20
I have also encountered this problem with the FTP plugin, exact same error message. The strange part is that I can connect to all but one of the servers at work with no problem, but that last one can't seem to finalize the connection.

This is preventing me from working on a project at work, so any information would be greatly appreciated!

Found our problem!

Turns out that sshd had been running for over a year and that someone had changed the sshdconfig for sftp, but didn't restart the service... I can now edit using jEdit over SFTP just fine!

Cannot connect to SFTP on Snow Leopard
by gerberad on Mon, 30/11/2009 - 16:26
For quite some time I had been able to connect via SFTP in jEdit from my desktop (OS X 10.5) to my laptop (OS X 10.5). However, when I upgraded to OS X 10.6, I was unable to connect via SFTP. I tried removing all passwords and all RSA keys. I can still connect fine via SSH, but SFTP in jEdit doesn't work. Connecting via FTP does work for me though. I'd rather use SFTP but as a temporary work-around, FTP works fine...

UPDATE: Before I posted the comment, I thought I should at least include the jEdit version (which was old: 4.3pre15). I downloaded 4.3pre18 and installed that. Now I get an "Auth Fail" error, which sounds better to me. When I get a chance, I'll try to track that down. Connecting via FTP in jEdit still works.
