Can't save long files with FTP Plugin
Submitted by glukgluk on Monday, 6 September, 2010 - 17:56
Hey guys,

I have worked with jEdit and the FTP plugin now for a while and never have had any problems.
But since I have installed a 64 Bit version, the saving on my remote server doesnt work anymore.
Strangely, it works with small files (less than 200 characters or so) but not with larger.
The error I get seems as following: "Cannot save: java.io.IOException: Rename failed: [path]#[filename]#save#.
Where the heck do these # come from?
I also have tried with disabled "two-stage save" but the result was the same as before, in addition to the fact that I havent received any error message.

I really despair of this problem because whats more, I have lost some important files irrevocable.
Please help me! Otherwise I'll have to look for another program.

Similar problem on clean xp sp3 install.
tried :-
- toggling passive mode - 2 stage save etc.
- changing jEdit / ftp versions. (several)
- changing Java versions 1.5- 1.6 last known that worked.
- copied program files and .jedit directories to new pc.
- changing modems.

Symptoms:-
Saving a new Or altered file over ftp that is greater then ~1kb
crashes the port on the modem and localhost / modem port is unreachable from the pc that initiated call.
jEdit hangs like in the good old days.?
Fix:- pull out cable from modem..... this is the only way found to reset modem port overload or whatever it is.

configuration :-
- xp sp3
- new pc Asus P7H55D-M EVO MB i5 760 cpu etc.
- java version "1.6.0_11" Problem also occurs with latest
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_11-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.0-b16, mixed mode, sharing)
- jEdit 4.3.2
- ftp 0.9.7

never had a problem before - jEdit rocks.
very annoying have pc here to fix for family member running fine on it.
similar version(s) though has had jEdit / upgrades on it for ages.
???
Cheers

... which means that You have newly installed jEdit, haven't You?

1. So, You might try if Your old jEdit installation works, if it's available yet. You just need to copy the whole program directory.

2. Also, You could check if the 64 Java really is used by jEdit - look at the beginning of activity log.

3. You should try to delete (or rename) Your settings directory to be sure that personal settings or any cache are not the reason.

4. Last not least take a look and/or comment at the bug tracker ( http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=588 ).

I have the same problem except I'm running JEdit 4.3.2 on a 32bit XP. Any ideas on how to fix this? Saving to the same server works fine from my JEdit install on Kubuntu at home.
