copy/paste from Excel on MacOSX
Submitted by evaristo2k on Wednesday, 23 March, 2011 - 11:38
When I copy/paste a selection of cells from Excel into Jedit, I get rows incorrectly separated and they appear as concatenated in one line.
Closing and reopening the file, the rows become correctly separated into different lines. It seems a problem related to how Jedit is rendering cells pasted from Excel.

This happens with the latest Jedit release (stable or daily RC) and working on MacOSX only (the same release on Windows behaves correctly).

Which is the problem?

Thanks,
Eva

Workaround

Don't know a solution. But I guess that You don't have to close and re-open the file. It should be sufficient to save the file and maybe to reload it (File -> Reload).

Yes, thanks just saving and reloading it works.

But there's a more general problem maybe related to this. The default saving option in Unix format (\n as new line) doesn't work. The file is saved in an incorrect format. I don't understand if it is Mac format (\r\n) or a different one.

Bye,

Ale

Buffer Options

I think that the default line separator only applies to new buffers. Existing files are opened and saved without changing the line separator format.

Goto "Utilities -> Buffer Options". The "Line Separator" dropdown shows the current separator type AND lets You change it...

See User's Guide

New buffers, with Unix (\n) default character, are saved with an incorrect line separator when I copy/paste from Word or Excel.
