Building from Source

Building from source is not recommended for average users. If you're willing to deal with the inevitable problems that occur during software development, your help testing and debugging will be greatly appreciated.
  1. Start by Installing Java if you haven't already
  2. Install Ant if you don't have it
  3. Get the source from the jEdit Cvs Repository
  4. run ant dist in the base directory of the source

jEdit and its plugins use Ant for compiling and packaging. Once you've downloaded the source code and installed Ant, building is as simple as going to the main source directory and typing ant dist. (Some plugins use different target names than dist). Using the Ant Farm plugin makes things even easier.
