Reporting Bugs

• You can report a bug on Source Forge
• You can send a message to the jEdit-devel list (See Mailing Lists)
• You can stop by #jEdit on irc.freenode.net (See Internet Relay Chat)

It is generally a bad idea to report a bug through the #jEdit IRC channel. The reason is that there is no permanent storage of that information.

Bug Report Guidelines

• Use jEdit %DEVEL_VERSION% and see if the problem still occurs.
• Isolate a procedure that consistently reproduces the issue.
• Include the contents generated by the "Make Bug Report" macro included with jEdit.
• Include error messages from the Activity Log or console.

Diagnostic Tips

There are situations where it may be difficult or impossible to obtain the information requested in the bug report guidelines. These tips will help.

• For freezes, run jEdit from the command line, reproduce the freeze, and press CTRL+Break on Windows or CTRL+\ on Unix. Include the information given in the bug report.
