There had been a lot of requests for hex editing support in jEdit, so I decided to get the ball rolling with this plugin. It's not going to win any awards just yet, but if you need to do a little hex editing, this plugin will let you.

If anyone with a more vested interest in hex editing support would like to take over the plugin, they're more than welcome.

To Do

• Search for hex pattern or ascii string.
• Go to a specific offset, with the ability to choose the offset in decimal or hex.
• Display offset from beginning of file to the current cursor position.
• display Length (in bytes) of selected bytes.
• Decimal/octal/binary equivalent (select 1, 2, 4, or 8 bytes and see the decimal/octal/binary value)
• Undo
• A hex calculator
• Close icon
• Indicate buffer status
• Create backup on save?
• Highlight corresponding char in ascii representation
• Use block caret
  • show real char underneath
  • fix vert. align of char
• Display path of open file
• Move between bytes with arrow keys
• Auto-switch cells when typing
• add undo capability
• More graceful error handling with Log.log() and GUIUtilities.error()
• Document API
