jedit4.3pre16install.dmg won't run on Mac OS X

I ran the stable yesterday. Today I tried to install the version jedit4.3pre16install.dmg, which I can't tell if it actually installs or not. I get a drive like looking icon that I can 'eject' but when i run the app, the splash screen flashes for a brief second, and disappears. no error messages. No application.

I have tried removing all vestiges of either application, and followed the instructions on the FAQ.

Mac OS X install?

I too cannot get jEdit installed on Mac OS X. Everything is at the latest versions, and downloading and installing 4.3pre16 generates no errors, but clicking on jEdit does nothing.

I've looked at the doc, but didn't find clear instructions. Help?

Did you try the soft-link instructions in this thread, below? This usually fixes most Mac OS X installation problems.

First tries:

1. If You had the MacOS.jar in Your jars directory, delete it!

2. Delete (or rename) Your settings dir (%Userprofiles%\.jedit). So jEdit starts without any settings.

Thanks for the good help.
What kept getting me was, I assumed the clicking on the DMG file somehow was 'installing' the jedit.app under applications. Which it never did. I copied the jedit.app from the (expanded?) dmg file, to the application folder, and followed the instructions below, and everything work perfectly.
Being very new to Mac, the concept the jedit.app was a folder was quite a suprise.

Try replacing the soft link under /Applications/jEdit.app/Contents/MacOS with a copy of what it's soft linking to.

Be sure to quit (Command + Q) jEdit first.

mv jedit jedit.bak

cp /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Resources/MacOS/JavaApplicationStub .

mv JavaApplicationStub jedit

This works for me, and I also have the Mac OS plugin enabled.

worked, thanks for your Help!

I did not use jEdit for months now because I am lacking the knowledge to dive so deep in the MacOS to rewrite something using Terminal. As I typed in your code from above, it gave me an error, but after pasting our codeblock into my Terminal it worked. Must have been sth. with the dot at the end of the third line. Does this mark a line break or does it already belong to "mv" in the fourth line? I am just curious : )

destination: .

This copies the JavaApplicationStub file to the current directory.

The 4th line renames JavaApplicationStub to jedit.

I don't have those directories

I redownloaded the file from:
https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=588&package_id=3753

which is labeled as:
Latest version (development): (JDK 1.5 and later)

When I click on the .dmg file, it extracts jEdit.app.
When i click on jEdit.app, I get a popup warning about it being downloaded from the internet, which I accept by clicking on 'Open.'

After clicking on Open, I get what I would guess might be a spalsh screen for a very brief moment.

Then, nothing happens.
When I look at activity Monitor, I don't see any items running that begin with the letter 'j.'

jEdit.app IS a directory

In OSX, files .app are actually directories. You can enter inside them through terminal, or right-clicking them and choosing "Show Package Contents"
