jEdit equivalent to Xedit "All" command?
Submitted by edjgallagher on Tuesday, 7 February, 2006 - 06:27
Good evening. I'm a Xedit user at work losing my favorite editor with the elimination of Unix as the prime operating system. One of Xedit's features I use most often is the "All" command which allows one to display a just a specific set of lines eligible for editting based on a repeating target. Those lines not meeting the display requirements are excluded from the display. Once editting is complete the full file can be redisplayed with the editting changes incorporated. Does jEdit have (or can it be easily configured to have) a similar functionality. If so, I think I've found a new favorite editor. Thanks!

hi!
i know that i am replying to more than 2 1/2 years old comment, but the "all" command described here is exactly what i'm missing in JEdit. i use JEdit for many things, but for searching (e.g. in logfiles) i use Kedit because of the powerful "all" command.
i couldn't find something like that in JEdit or plugins and macros so i wanted to ask if this would be possible. i looked a bit into the sourcecode and found the "hideLineRange" method in the DisplayManager class, but it is private. would it be possible to do the things described in previous comment with this method?
kind regards,
hannes

Sorry, I don't see a way to emulate this feature actually. You can select some subsequent lines and tell jedit to only show them. But a "replace all" operation for example does it's work also in the invisible lines...

But feel free to file a feature request .

Actually, I wonder if a fold configuration could do something similar.

You might want to check out the ConfigurableFoldHandler. My thought is that you could set the fold handler to fold everything after your search string there by hiding it from view.

It's not perfect, but it might suffice.

The difference is that all mass operations like "replace all" do it's work also in the hidden lines. Maybe the XSearch plugin can help in this case, but I cannot use it - the GUI is cruel (sorry, Alan).

BTW: I took a look at Kedit. The ALL command is really a handy feature.
