compile jEdit with JDK only?

is there a way to compile jEdit using just the JDK 1.4.1 and no additional software like Ant? I can't install anything new onto that machine and the JDK is the only thing available. I also HAVE to compile it from source code ...

Why do you "HAVE" to compile it from source?

From my understanding, the current version (4.3pre12) will only compile with JDK 5 or greater. You'll need to download the 4.2 final source code.

You'll also need to know a bit about Ant, because Ant sets up the classpaths and stuff.

Why do you "HAVE" to compile it from source? If you can download the source code to your harddrive, then you can install jEdit.

You may not be able to use the Windows installer, but you can use the Java Installer and install jEdit to a directory you have permission.

Then you can just use "java -jar jedit.jar" (use javaw if you don't want the console to stay open) from within that installation directory to run jEdit.
