Copy/Paste not working in dialog boxes (jEdit 4.3pre16)
Submitted by crodge2k on Thursday, 23 April, 2009 - 19:11
Recently changed jobs and fortunately was able to convince IT to let me install jEdit 4.3 Pre 16 (running on Java 1.6.0_13, WinXP) on my computer. Most things are working just fine, but I can't use copy or paste (C-c, C-v, C-x) in any dialog boxes -- file open, search/replace, hypersearch bar, etc. etc.

I don't think it's a bug because I was using jEdit 4.3 pre previously without an issue.

Suggestions anyone? I don't have admin rights on the machine, so it's hard to make many changes, and I don't want to ask IT to do too much because they'll ask me to switch to the standard software (I only got this installed as a favor). I've used jEdit for a couple of years now and love it -- would hate to have to switch to the "standard" software used here.

Fix for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
by achaux on Fri, 15/01/2010 - 18:55
FYI, I came across this same issue recently. I could not paste text into dialog fields, but could paste into my code within the editor. I simply uninstalled the Mac OSX plugin using the plugin manager and everything works fine now. Refer to http://jedit.org/index.php?page=compatibility#macx for more details.

General fix

I found that removing in the properties file (in ~/Librarty/jEdit/) the line "lookAndFeel=com.apple.laf.AquaLookAndFeel" the copy & paste works correctly also with the MacOSX plugin enabled!

Thanks - this worked for me on OS X 10.6.5

just out of curiosity, what kind of keyboard are you using?

Microsoft Natural Keyboard Elite

It's the old beige ergonomic keyboard from Microsoft. I've used it with jEdit before, but it's not the exact same keyboard I had previously (new job). It's connected via the USB adapter that came in the box (even though it's a PS2 keyboard) because the computer doesn't have a PS2 port.

When I was using it before it was PS2 hooked up.

Hmm.. Should be fine. The only thing I can think of is that you have CTRL +C, and CTRL + V mapped to something else.

Sadly no other key mappings going on
by crodge2k on Tue, 28/04/2009 - 19:55
Nope, just re-checked the key mappings and they're spot on -- CTRL+X, CTRL+C, and CTRL+V are all mapped as usual to cut copy and paste.
Oh well, I'm getting better at remembering when to use CTRL+INS vs. SHIFT+INS.

Thanks again, for everyone's help and time.

Hmm. There was some changes lately to a new Mac plugin which fixed mac key bindings for mac users.

You didn't happen to install it did you?

No Mac plugin installed
by crodge2k on Wed, 06/05/2009 - 21:18
Nope, no strange plugins installed. Suspect that this is the PS2 to USB adapter for this keyboard that does it (there are no PS2 ports on the keyboard). I'm not that worried... I'll surely survive.

For me, it works (with same configuration). Did You try the alternative shortcuts SHIFT+DEL and SHIFT+INS?

Robert

I had not tried those -- that works. Hmm.
by crodge2k on Thu, 23/04/2009 - 23:33
Interestingly those work work fine. And CTRL+INS works fine too (I checked because I wondered if it was something to with the CTRL key. I'd never have thought to use those if you hadn't suggested it... thanks for the thought!

I tried flipping the primary and secondary shortcuts, but that didn't solve the problem (nor did removing the alternate shortcuts). Is there any way to get the the "standard" shortcuts working again?

Thanks for the help!

Sorry, I've got no idea why CTRL+C and CTRL+V do not work. But sometimes I've seen this behavior in other applications...

The help is appreciated none-the-less

Thanks for the suggestion anyway, Robert -- at least the ctrl-ins etc solutions keep the program somewhat functional for me!
