Can't install/upgrade plugins
Submitted by Anonymous on Saturday, 7 May, 2005 - 01:13
I have just tried to update two plugins: BufferTabs and Editor Scheme, and the updates failed to install ("I/O error: error opening ZIP file"). Not only can I not update any plugins, but I have also lost the old versions, and I cannot re-install them.

Anyone else having this problem recently?
Trouble with "HTML Suggests" and Xinsert
Submitted by Anonymous on Wednesday, 4 May, 2005 - 14:54
Hi, I've been using JEdit for a while, so as to develop websites in xHTML/CSS. I encounter 2 bugs : On a HTML sheet, there's no more "HTML Suggets" (soory, don't know the english name, u know, when u type a "<", it suggests the rest), whereas it works on new sheets. The second bug is with Xinsert : it doesn't insert the macro, but the name of the macro. nothing changed in the xml files... Anyone may help ? Thx

Charset encoding and plugins
Submitted by Anonymous on Thursday, 28 April, 2005 - 14:47
Hi all,

I'm using jEdit 4.2final with XSLT 0.6.0.

I have to transform some utf-8 .xsl files, but when I click on "Tranform XML" the XSLT plugins says:
===
[error] AWT-EventQueue-0: [Fatal Error] filename.xsl:1:1: Content is not allowed in prolog.
===
because the file starts with the three bytes that identifies utf-8 files.

I don't understand why the File System Browser - that appear when I click on the "Select source XML" or "Add styleshet" buttons on the XSLT GUI - doesn't show the "Encoding >" line in the "Commands" menu...
Obviously I set utf-8 in the Global Options->General->Default Encoding and I disabled the Auto-detection, but XSLT plugin seems to ignore these settings...

Note that the "Encoding >" line in the "Commands" menu of the File System Browser:
appears when I choose File->Open on jedit main menu
doesn't appear when I choose Open file in another plugin (QuickNotepad)

For these reasons I think that the Encoding selection in the File System Browser is disabled when the Browser is invoked
by a plugin, but I don't understand why.

thank you in advance

File System Browser using ftp
Submitted by Anonymous on Monday, 25 April, 2005 - 17:30
I am using 4.2final with the ftp plugin to create php. However, when I open a file using jedit it takes at first one minute to make a connection to the server, secondly it takes 30 seconds to open a directory, at last also 30 seconds to open a file.
When I use fireFtp, this only takes 20 seconds in total, but then you don have a very powerful editor... Does anyone know how I can improve the speed?

Thanks in advance!!!
BTW, I am using SuSE 9.3 Pro on KDE 3.4 and java 1.4.2_06
HTML Tag matching does not work in PHP mode under linux(?) ...
Submitted by Anonymous on Saturday, 23 April, 2005 - 00:02
hi everybody,

for some reason the HTML Tag matching doesn't work in PHP mode under linux (ubuntu 5.04) but does under windows. I tried different jdks (1.4.2 and 1.5.0) and different jedit versions (4.2 and latest 4.3pre2) and copied the modes folder from my windows box to my linux box - no difference (the php.xml files are completely identical btw ...) it simply doesn't work. If I switch to html mode there is tag highlighting (but no php syntax highlighting of course ....)

can somebody help me?

thx, claus
Problem with Unix file system,
Submitted by Anonymous on Thursday, 21 April, 2005 - 07:57
Hi,
I mounted a network drive on Windows in order to access to a Unix server (sun4u 5.8 ),
and I'm accessing files on this network drive with JEdit,
I unchecked the option '2 step save',
but JEdit is still ignoting Unix rights and accept to save every files even those which are read only.

I tried with JRE 1.4.1 and 1.5 and I get the same behaviour, has anyone any idea ? How to tell JEdit to use Unix rights ? Or is it a problem linked to Windows software, and so unsolvable ? (I use Windows 2000 pro)

Thanks !

abbrevations and german keyboard
Submitted by Anonymous on Sunday, 17 April, 2005 - 08:15
Hallo All,

with my german keyboard, the shortcut for abbrevations (Control + SEMICOLON) doesn't function.
Trying abbrevations from within the menu, there's no problem.

So any hints, where i can change the shortcut for abbrevations ?

Thanks,

No backquotes
Submitted by Anonymous on Thursday, 14 April, 2005 - 17:14
Hi,

On my belgian keyboard, I normaly have to use the <alt-gr>+µ key combinaison to get the backquote character (`). But I can't get it with jEdit... So I can't accentuate capital letters (ÀÈÌ...) nor backquote field names in MySQL queries. The only solution I found is to cut and paste these characters from another application: painful!

Any way to solve this problem?

XML Parser error using Plugin manager to update plugins
Submitted by ryexley on Thursday, 7 April, 2005 - 13:57
I can't figure out what the problem here is, but I've not been able to figure it out for forever, and haven't found anything here on the message boards that explains how to fix it, so... I've been having a problem with the plugin manager when I try to access either the Update or the Install tab. Whenever I click on either of those, I get an XML Parser error that says: "An error occurred while parsing http://plugins.jedit.org/export/gzip_plugin_manager.php, line 1: expected character (found "e") (expected "<")" Anyone happen to have any idea what might be causing this, and/or how I can get around it and get it fixed, so I can update my existing plugins, and install some new ones? Thanks.
jEdit slow startup problem: 3 minutes, 13 seconds
Submitted by Anonymous on Wednesday, 6 April, 2005 - 18:17
Hi,

whenever I run jEdit (in ArchLinux) it takes a bit over 3 minutes to start. This has occured to me for versions 4.2, 4.3pre2 (most recent), j2dk/j2re 1.5.0_01-1 (most recent Arch version) and with 1.5.0_02 (most recent version).
It seems to be waiting for something, then timing out. It is probably just something weird in my system, but I am ignorant of a good way to track down what is taking the time. I've been trying to solve this by asking at the ArchLinux forum but to no avail.

From strace:

It is just after the realize line that it waits (usually for about 3 minutes and 13-15 seconds). I've tried different GTK2 themes, but observed no change in the slow startup. When I use the Default theme startup is still slow but the error messages about an unsupported theme engine don't occur.
I'm not using Gnome as a desktop environment (am using either wmi or wmii), and for what it's worth the slow startup happens in KDE, and as a different user.

So, can anyone diagnose the problem? Or suggest a way I can gather more information about where it is getting stuck? The symptoms are so vague I'm having a problem searching for a solution.

Other Java programs seem to work okay. I've wiped the ~/.jedit dir and the CLASSPATH variable, moved everything execpt jedit.jar out of the jedit install dir (/usr/share/jedit43)- to no change.

Thanks in advance.

cheers

jEdit 4.3pre2 hangs, when switching between projects
Submitted by Anonymous on Wednesday, 6 April, 2005 - 16:53
Hello everybody =)

This is actually a bug report.
forgive me, if i missed, where it should go.

the problem is as follows:
i have a couple of projects, and i'm browsing between them constantly. the problem that's been bugging me appears at the moment, when jEdit closes one project and opens another one. at this moment it disables the project browser, so i can't switch to another file/project. at first it wasn't a real problem, happened from time to time, so i dismissed it. but lately it started reoccuring pretty often: practically each time i switch the projects. of course, i always can choose View->New View and close the old one or just restart jEdit, but it's kinda annoys me.

am i dumb, or is it a real bug?

thanx, anyway =)

Igor.

Jedit using the lilytool plugin used to work fine. The I didn't do any work with for a month or two. Now I'm back at it and it's not working. I uninstalled jedit and updated it to the latest stable version for XP, then installed the plugin lilytool. I also have cygwin installed. I am getting this error when running lilytool:

This really ticks me off because I have to have this music ready for tomorrow morning, but it looks like I'll have to do it by hand.
Hangs when trying to load file via webdav if server unreachable
Submitted by Anonymous on Thursday, 31 March, 2005 - 00:26
Is there a way to stop a process in jedit? sometimes I try to open a file via webdav, but turns out the server is down, and my jedit just keeps trying to open it for about 20 minutes, I wish I could "cancel"

thanks if anybody has any info,
