jEdit, FTP and Zope
Submitted by Anonymous on Monday, 22 March, 2004 - 07:23
Moin,

I try to use jEdit and the FTP Plugin for remote editing auf Zopefiles. I can read and write the files without any problem but after saving a file the zope object type changes. I open a "Zope Page Template" and after saving it is a "Zope Document". I tried it with other editors (emacs, xemacs) and that works as expected.

Is there any known issue with jEdit 4.1final?

cp852 encoding
Submitted by Anonymous on Monday, 22 March, 2004 - 15:00
I would like to replace my DOS source code editor with JEdit. However, I need to keep the OEM codepage 852 encoding because my other colleagues still want to use the former DOS application to edit the same sources. I tried to Save a file with cp852 encoding but some special characters are replaced with question marks after reload. Is Cp852 supported? Which font should be set for the text? Could anyone suggest any free or shareware editor to solve my problem?

Thanks a lot
Half page scroll
Submitted by Anonymous on Tuesday, 23 March, 2004 - 01:36
I need a feature.
It is better that i can select option of page-up and page-down for a page or a half page.

If i want to scan through the file and find something by eyes, it is very easy to miss something on the top and the bottom of the pages, so if i can page-down a half, the bottom become the center ........i think it is better!
Antelope woes
Submitted by shaolang on Tuesday, 23 March, 2004 - 08:10
Harlow,

I'm using jEdit4.2pre11 and Ant 1.6.1 and I've installed the Antelope plugin, but everytime I run jEdit, it will always give an error that there are errors loading a list of files, which incidentally are the ant jar files. Although Antelope still function, it's very irritating to see those errors being thrown everytime. Please help.

Thanks in advance!
C++/C# completion support in CodeAid (or some other plugin)
Submitted by davidljung on Tuesday, 23 March, 2004 - 19:03
I use jEdit primarily for C++/C# development. I'd like to see CodeAid work for C++ and
C# rather than just Java. C++ would need at least a basic understanding of
templates (which is soon to be true for Java/C# too).

As an incentive/motivation, I'll give US$50 to anyone who implements one
or the other (or both!), either in CodeAid or some other
plugin, via PayPal (or I'll donate to jEdit.org if prefered).

-David.

PS: If this gets implemented anyway, I'll donate $50 to jEdit.org

JEdit4.2pre11 periodic pauses
Submitted by Anonymous on Tuesday, 23 March, 2004 - 22:05
I seem to be getting pauses when typing text into an existing file. They also seem to happen when scrolling.

When scrolling, every 20 lines or so, the scrolling pauses for half a second, then resumes for another 20 lines, then pauses, etc.

When inserting text, every 5 or 6 characters, there is a half a second pause, then it continues inserting 5 more chars, then a pause etc.

I did not see this with 4.2pre9.

LaTeX mode (latex.xml v1.1 by Thomas Alspaugh)
Submitted by alspaugh on Wednesday, 24 March, 2004 - 12:21
Highlights all environments, commands, and counters from Lamport's LaTeX2e and some of amstex and other popular packages. The five principal modes (normal, math, tabbing, tabular, and picture) are distinguished, mode transitions handled, and each mode's commands highlighted separately. Approximately 970 items are covered.
Console Plugin window layout
Submitted by Anonymous on Wednesday, 24 March, 2004 - 15:01
I use the console plugin a lot for Ant and (on windows machines at work) for the System shell.

Sadly, it seems there's no way to move the shell selection widget and edit box (for typing commands) to the bottom of the window where it belongs IMO. This means your eyes are constantly hopping from the top of the screen to see what you're typing, to the bottom to see the output and it's quite uncomfortable. With the toolbar at the bottom, it would also be more in line with true console / terminal input and the style of most IRC / chat clients.

Any chance of moving it by default, or being given the option of where to place it?

All the best!

Installing jEdit for ALL users under XP
Submitted by thammr on Friday, 26 March, 2004 - 03:51
I know its a stupid question but I can't find the answer.

How do I install jEdit on XP for ALL users?

I installed jEdit on XP as administrator.

Normal users have "Open with jEdit" on the context menu but jEdit won't run.

This is what I have tried:

a) Installing jEditLauncher as user

Run jEdit.exe, say yes to install jEditLauncher, point at my java executable

Result ==> "JEdit.JEditLauncher - The system cannot find the file specified."

b) User reinstalls jEdit himself.

Install appears to complete OK.

Result ==> Still no Start Menu Entry, no shortcut on desktop, no jEditLauncher, no GO

c) set jedit parameters (http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=718007)

I didn't try this because I have no idea what it means.

d) Run jEdit.jar

This works but the context menus still don't work. Since I almost always launch jEdit
from the context menus, this is not really satisfactory.

e) Manually edit registry

Logon as Administrator, run RegEdit, export HKEY_CURRENT_USER/software/www.jedit.org =>jedit.reg
Logon as unprivileged user, run Regedit import jedit.reg into HKEY_CURRENT_USER/software

This appears to work. But users shouldn't have to edit the registry.

VIMOutliner like solution

Has anyone built outliner functionality into jEdit - something like VimOutliner is for VI? It's pretty nifty.
Where do I put the SQL Files...
Submitted by Gary Furash on Friday, 26 March, 2004 - 14:31
I'm sure this is obvious, but...
When I'm making the XML file for configuring my data sources for SQL plugins, where do I store it (the directory) and what should I call the file (something.xml). Should I have a separate xml file for each data source?
JDiff Plugin 1.3.2 is broken; how do I get 1.4.2 to work?
Submitted by Champ on Saturday, 27 March, 2004 - 23:52
Having upgraded from 4.2pre9 with JDiff 1.3.1 plug-in (on Windows), I was disappointed that 4.2pre11 with JDiff 1.3.2 does not work (error shows Beanshell stack trace) Sadly, I could not find 1.3.1 anymore to revert this upgrade!

I have since discovered JDiff 1.4.2 (plug-in) upgrade but cannot seem to plug this in manually either under the program directory or my user settings. The Plugin manager still shows 1.3.2 even after removing and re-installing!!

I am obviously missing something but upgrading should surely not be so obscure!

TIA anyone? Alan
