I'm also interested in this if anyone's had any success. I'm using jEdit on an old machine so I could really benefit from the speed increase.

It's not possible I believe, because SWING is not implemented in GCJ.

It may be getting there though. On the GNU Classpath homepage
http://www.gnu.org/software/classpath/home.html it says:

"(there are preliminary implementations of java.nio and javax.swing)"
