Tilde won't work in Linux
Submitted by Anonymous on Sunday, 29 February, 2004 - 15:34
I had this issue in Linux, with 4.2 pre 8 and in pre 9 as well.

jEdit does not accept the tilde as a single character. For instance, I tried to type a web address as www.ic.unicamp.br/~ra, but the tilde does not show up.

Latin characters, such as ã, ñ, etc. show fine.

If I use another editor to type the tilde alone, and copy-paste it into jEdit, it works fine.

In Windows it works fine.

I have the same problem. I use Debian unstable, blackdown java and jedit deb package. All were the latest versions yesterday.

BTW, here in Windows 2000 tilde doesn't work either. Other dead keys work with space or letters, but tilde won't. In Linux tilde worked with other letters, but not with space.

Same Problem on MacOSX

hi,

I use MacOSX 10.3.4, jEdit 4.1final, Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_03-117.1) and can't type-in @ ~ and ^. Funny enough it works fine in the concole plugin, so it's easy to copy & paste (also form any other application), but ...

Same problem on Windows ME and SuSE 9.1
by Tsela on Thu, 01/07/2004 - 20:14
I have jEdit 4.2pre14 on both a Windows ME box with a Dutch keyboard and a SuSE 9.1 box with an American keyboard using the US-International layout from KDE. On both boxes the JRE is 1.4.2 (IIRC).

On the Windows box all accents work correctly except ^. I can get it to work by pressing it five times though! (I get four ^^^^, and then I can get the accented character I want. I just need to erase the four ^^^^ each time). I just discovered that it works perfectly in the Console plugin though, I hadn't tried that. Thanks for the tip! But still, the problem remains.

On the SuSE box, most of the dead-keys just don't work at all (I can't even get " or ' without first switching to another keyboard layout). I'll try and see if it works in the Console plugin.

If it all works under the Console plug-in, why doesn't it work in the buffer windows? Strange...
