Same precise problem: Force quit only
by Anonymous on Sat, 16/10/2004 - 04:08
I'm having the same problem. I downloaded JEdit today and I can't quit the program.
I have the same experience:
"I have this same problem...'quit jedit' is greyed out, 'File->exit' doesn't do anything...i have to 'force quit', sometimes...haven't determined when the quit button becomes deactivated yet....."

Force quitting is the only way I've been able to quit.

I may uninstall completely and install again.

Any ideas?
How?

Can you describe the various ways you've tried to quit jEdit and what they've resulted in? Can you force quit it?

and the developer remains silent..

could please someone of the programming staff give us a clue what's the matter with Jedit? I am using it on Win XP since years and wanted to use it on my Apple also. But with a behaviour like described above it is not appropriate for professional working.

Works fine for me.

I've been using the mac for years and I haven't had any problems like that.

Also, not sure if you noticed, but that post was from about 3 years ago.

I don't think that's necessary.

I don't think that's necessary, I was using 4.2 final on my work machines (both macs - one intel, one g4) and I never saw an issue like this.

However, I've been using the beta now for 6+ months, it is quite stable and I definitely recommend it.

The only way to quit jedit is
by Anonymous on Wed, 10/03/2004 - 23:14
The only way to quit jedit is aborting the task.

Quit, Exit or the RedButton in the Windowtitlebar don't work.
I get no errormessages: Nothing happens.
--> All the usual ways of closing an program affect nothing.

Quiting jEdit w/ latest Panther
by Anonymous on Fri, 12/03/2004 - 07:34
I don't know how you are experiencing this problem .. I also have the latest panther/updates and jEdit 4.2pre9 ... it quits fine for me ...

both by going to the jEdit menu in the Apple menu bar and selecting Quit jEdit, and also by going to File > Exit

It comes and goes

Sometimes everything works great other times it won't quit. Seems like its when jEdit has been running for a few days (with multiple sleep periods in between).

This problem still exists on 4.2Final.

Also I have a question, I have two different versions of 4.2Final on OSX. One is an app on is an app in a folder. I like the app but the folder dist seems to be newer (and is more like previous versions)

Jedit can't quit (me too)
by Anonymous on Fri, 19/11/2004 - 22:16
Just to back up the others. I have the same problem. I'm running OS X 10.3.6 (lastest version) and Jedit 4.2final. If I have it open for a while, quit gets greyed out in the menu. The only way to quit Jedit is to "force quit". I can't shutdown or restart my machine while jedit is open and the quit item is greyed out. I first have to "force quit".

have this too, sometimes. OS 10.3.5/10.3.6 Jedit 4.2final.
Maybe iam wrong, but if i have some files open and try "save a copy to ...". after a few saves i cant "save a copy too ..." and cant quit. only what works then is kill the task.

I have exactly the same problem -- with OS X 10.3.6 and Jedit 4.2final.

same problem here

Running Jedit 4.2 final on OS X 10.3.8 I have the same problems. It seems to occur when I've had Jedit open for several days. The systems are a greyed out quit menu and the inability to "save as." Attempts to "save as" don't bring up the file browser dialog. Simply nothing happens. Force quiting Jedit and restarting solves the problem.
