I would like to set this useful function but don't know how!

the tip setting the folding mode to ident was the right hint.
So thanks to all, 'cause this is a real cool feature...

You were right Lars!

Obviously the tag "show fold guids" generate these lines between matching brackets. Nevertheless it don't work ... ans I still don't know why! If I select this option nothing happens. They only thing that works concerning to that is the "show paragrah seperator". I've tested it on both Windows and Linux OSs...
What's the problem?

Try the "Whitespace" plugin...

If you use jEdit 4.1 you can download it with the Plugin Manager or at http://plugins.jedit.org.

If you use jEdit 4.2 you need a "hacked" version. Go to
http://community.jedit.org/?q=filestore/browse/27
There look for "White Space Plugin - Hacked".

Hope it helps,
Lars

get the "Configurable Fold Handler" plugin for generic folding.
You specify the fold start and fold end characters easily.

You can further use regular expressions to specify there, or different types such as fold start for {, /*, etc in c++ and fold end for } and */.

You can specify different folding for different file types also, and it has a default folding mode where you have not specified one for a particular file type.

LazyFolds looks like a contender also, you specify the folding in an xml file and can use bean shell scripts in there also. It's not documented very well though and I have not got it working.

There are others that are specific to a file type, such as Java Fold.
