Allow setting directory for scratch file
Submitted by Anonymous on Wednesday, 31 March, 2004 - 17:46
When I start working on a file, jedit creates a file called #Untitled-1# and puts it in whatever current directory I happen to be in. This sometimes causes me to have these little files scattered about on the myriad of different drives and file shares I work on. The auto save feature lets you set a 'backup' directory, and it would be great if I could also configure a 'scratch file' directory.

Well, this is only a temporary problem - if you save the file, the scratch file disappers..

What's the problem with the scratch-files for a short period of time?

here's the problem: I work on files that are located on remote
drives. I have several drive shares mapped for this. Sometimes, I
loose my network connection before I save the file, and then
those orphan files stay on the network drive. So I would like
to be able to have the scratch files (before saving) stored on
my local computer so that doesn't happen.

I sympathize with this

I've been noticing an accumulation of scratch files as well, and I'm not usually facing network issues. I've been trying to keep an eye on when these happen, but haven't go it nailed down yet. At this point I'm inclining toward a possible bug with handling scratch files on network shares, but I'm not sure enough about this yet to submit a bug report.

To give some idea of how bad this is, about 60%-70% of all files opened on a network share result in an orphaned scratch file. I just can't nail down a pattern yet.
