Logical file grouplings or workspaces
Submitted by Anonymous on Thursday, 22 April, 2004 - 17:47
Often I need a core set of files, often depending on the exact task I am working on. Through the course of the day, I may open many extra files, or perhaps work on two or three seperate tasks. It would be nice of I could group a set of documents to a workspace/group/what-have-you, and open all the files in one shot. That way if I get too many open, I can close all files and start from scratch. I can open my config files, my current tasks, or perhaps a set of XML documents.

Not sure if this would be good for a plug in or for the program itself, then again, perhaps this feature exists and I just missed it.

Use the ProjectViewer plugin, or the sessions plugin

So close...

The Sessions and the Project Viewer are INCREDIBLY close to what I want, but not quite (and what the other person in this thread wants, if I understand them correctly)

What I really want is the buffer list across the top to only show files that are attached to that workspace view rather than the global list.

i.e I want one View to be attached to one project/space/logical group and not worry itself about what's going on in the other view. So if I switch projects on view A, when I flip back to the other view (call it View B), it's still where I left it. If this is handled globally for all views at the server level, than maybe I need to run multiple servers, but this strikes me as inelegant and kludgy.

It would be great if I could just treat the views as fully independant workspaces. I really don't even need a session view or a project manager, just a way of having that views buffer list segregated by logical token, than a way to attach that view to a new token that's sticky.

There's GOT to be a way to do this....
