and there is no default folding, like around functions/methods, loops (braced) etc etc ?

I'd nearly move to another editor but i'll try a while longer to find a sane way of doing this. Otherwise, it's kate, kdevelop, or some such and jedit will have to get the bin i'm afraid...

i thought so too, and that _is_ the case if you don't use plugins, and that _is_ 'kind of crap'.

There are plugins, some are specific to an editing-mode (read a file type) and others are just too complicated (or poorly documented ?)

Get Configurable Fold Handler plugin.

I found it generic, easy to set up, and extremely useful.

This should be -built in- to the editor imo.

Set folding mode to 'indent', that way, functions, loops and other indented parts will be foldable.
