in addition to reading stdin and sending it to the running process, it would be nice if the Console plugin:
- put %CLASSPATH% instead of $CLASSPATH when compiling java on Windows (see http://community.jedit.org/?q=node/view/1562)
- allowed the console cursor color to be changed (I like dark backgrounds)

Also, I found the following problem when using the Console plugin on Windows:
I have an association between "perl -w" and *.pl files, which means that I can type "myscript.pl" rather than "perl -w myscript.pl" to run a perl script.
At least it works in the windows cmd shell - not in Jedit's Console. Jedit's Console just prints "process myscript.pl exited with code 0"
it does not print the output of myscript.pl

however, if I do "perl -w myscript.pl", then the output IS printed, so it has something to do with the file type association of windows.

anyway, it would be nice if the Jedit Console dealt with those associations correctly.

more things to support:

more compiler/interpreter options
the Compile/Run list of file types far exceeds the list of compilers/interpreters that can be applied to those file types

Some ones I'd like are:
Perl
gcc (for cryin' out loud)

Incidentially, if anyone knows how I can manually add these entries, I'll gladly do it myself. It seems like each interpreter needs its own dialog-interface. Perhaps just add a perl.xml and gcc.xml entry in Console.jar/commando/ ?
is that all that needs to be done?

Console 4.0.1 has support for stdin.

Regarding more compiler/interpreter options -- specifically, Perl and GCC, see Console's help on Commando. You can create and add new entries to ~/.jedit/console/commando. If you create new commando entries, you might want to consider sending them to Slava (slava@jedit.org), for inclusion in a future release of Console.

You might also wish to search this site (for "commando"), which has commando files for both Perl and GCC, though I don't know how well they work.

java console more like konsole?
by Anonymous on Thu, 09/12/2004 - 00:25
Is there a way to cycle from one instance of the console to another? I'd really like to have tabs like the buffer tabs. And then maybe switch from console tab to console tab with alt + page down or something like that. On windows alt +tab gets you to the next console, but I'm running jedit 4.1 off a unix box and through vnc. I know CDE should supply alt + tab 'ish functionality but it doesn't. If console worked similiar to KDE's konsole I could get by with just running jedit and forget about CDE!! Thanks for the great work!
