jEdit 4.2 closes by itself in Windows XP SP2
Submitted by Anonymous on Wednesday, 13 October, 2004 - 16:52
It installed just fine, and launches correctly. But as soon as I close the "Welcome" help page, the whole application closes. Java environment is Sun's j2re1.4.2_05.

reinstall with windows .exe installer. For unknown reason jedit 4.2 does not work well with the jar installation under windows xp sp2.
It is weird because the windows installer does not seem to touch the registry.

I also have the same problem

I am a long time JEdit user and I also have the same problem.

JEdit 4.2 final exits unexpectedly. I dont know why. I am using sun JDK 1.5 final.

One place where it always exits is when editing XML files & using autocomplete feature.
say if i type "<" a list of options appear. When i select any one option by KeyBord or by Mouse. jEdit exits. without any log of it. No matter how many time i try it just Exits all of a sudden without any error message or any error Log.

I will really appreciate some help on solving this problem.

Same here, seems to be related to jdk1.5

I originally posted this error message on sourceforge, but after all it is better doing it here. Slightly repeating the original post (and also reflecting to some of the advices that came back from Slava and others on sourceforge):

Running: Windows XP SP2, jedit 4.2final (sorry Slava, it was my mistake on the original post). If I use j2re1.4.2_03\bin\javaw.exe, everything works fine. If I switch to jdk1.5.0/bin/java.exe (or javaw.exe), it starts up, works, but closes at random times. I tried to increase memory when starting it, as one of the commenters advised, I also tried from command line as well as by rerunnin jedinit, no change.

Ie: for the time being I keep jre1.4.2_03 on my machine and run jedit through it. But something is definitely wrong...;-(

Who knows, it might be combination of SP2+jdk1.5...

As far as I know the Java installation is the runtime environment. I don't do any Java delopment so I would not need that version.
The jEdit installation was the Windows EXE installer.
