Help Reqd. Structure Browser (Side Kick) & Code browser use.
Submitted by pobox90210 on Tuesday, 23 November, 2004 - 20:37
Does anyone know where I can find some help info on either Structure Nrowser or Code Browser. I would prefer Structure Browser as I am using Linux and have no idea how to install ctags 5.5 to try and get Code Browser to work.
I would like to know how to set up a tag so that the "broswers" list them in the broswer pane.
If anyone has any help files or can write a step by step of how to set up a tag, I would appreciate it.
Thanks for your time.
Peter

PS. I normally use UltraEdit and would like a working function list in my jEdit if possible.
PPS. Is therre another way to do Column Mode other than holding the CTRL and using the mouse? It's not as good/usable as the UltraEdit one currently.

Plugin Development for SideKick
by Anonymous on Wed, 24/11/2004 - 09:28
Hi

The SideKick plugin is really just a framework which displays data provided by other plugins. Therefore it is the responsibility of other plugins to parse the data for different modes and give SideKick the information to display in the structure browser. Support for SideKick in the different plugins is not yet as comprehensive as what ctags will provide so if you have a wide range of file types that you want to view in the browser ctags and code browser might be the way to go. However, you could just write a plugin that provides SideKick with the information for the file types you are using Smiling.

When you say "Column Mode" are you talking about rectangular selection ? If you look in Edit > More Selection > Rectangular Selection you can see what shortcut is assigned to it. Mine is currently Alt+Backslash.

Hope all that help
Cheers

Sidekick & rectangular selection

With reference to your comment regarding sidekick & ctags and code broswer.....Bummer.

As for rectangular selection, I take it you have jEdit 4.2? It doesn't seem to be on 4.1....Bummer.

Thanks anyway. I'll wait till Linspire updates jEdit to 4.2 and wait till someone adds ctags 5.5 to the plugins so I can add them with no hassles through the plugin manager

Thanks anyway
