Fastest Java Engine?

Thinking about using jEdit as my main editor,
ie. for text, java, php and other script files.

What Java SDK is the fastest or will give me the most
responsive jEdit?

I'm thinking about startup time from the moment I
double click a file in Windows Explorer.
Using WinXP and I'm going to try jEdit as of ver 4.2final.

You didn't say which version

You didn't say which version of jEdit you're using. If you're using 4.1, try 4.2 -- it starts much more quickly than jEdit 4.1. Another option is to start jEdit in the background, which makes opening files very quick.

You're not likely to see a great difference in startup time by switching JVMs.

Thx for the tip, when I add the -background option I see that the
javaw.exe is not unloaded when I exit jEdit. Files, any files, load
instantly! Simply awesome Sticking out tongue
