ability to sort by columns in File System Browser

A request: to be able to click on the columns in the FSB to sort the dirs/files by name, type, size, status, and last modified.

First click on a column heading (like Size) would sort one way, say ascending; a second click on the same heading would sort in the opposite order (descending).

Would others find this useful, or useless?

sorting on columns

Yes, I was very disappointed just now when I realized that I _can't_ sort files by date in the File Open dlg. I have a dir with several hundred files, and I was looking for the ones that had been recently updated. Can't do it.

(To forestall any flames, or at least shaking of the head, in case you're wondering why I have several hundred files in a single directory: there is one file in this dir for each language with over a million speakers, which is to say around 330 languages/ files. There is no way to organize these into subdirs, at least not for my purposes.)

sort files is the best way to resume work

I usually want to open a file recently modified.
Sort files by date puts what I want at the top of the list.

It will be a very usefull feature. but i am really concerned about the folders with lots of files or when connecting to remote folders. it might slow down the rendering.

Hmmm... I don't see how this feature would have any impact on performance.

Considering that the information is read into FSB *anyway*. It's just a matter of sorting that same information in different ways.

Did I misinterpret something in you post?
