I lost the menus, too, however, I've found a way to get 'em back.

Go to the jEdit.app and right-click, Show Package Contents. Then go into the Contents folder and double-click the Info.plist. It should load in the Property List Editor. If not, right-click, Open With... and find the Property List Editor.

Open up Root, then open Java, and add a new child under that. Name is "VMOptions", class is String, and value is "-Dapple.laf.useScreenMenuBar=true"

Then save the property list and go run jEdit again. This sets a system property in the VM telling the apple look and feel to "steal" the menu bar out of the java window and put it in the main menu bar instead.

If you're using 4.3, you can make the same thing happen by creating a jEdit.app for it and setting the same option.

Same here, although it does seem to load faster in tiger. I'm gonna experiment with the look and feel plugin some. It keeps on putting up a dialog whenever i hit OK or Apply even if I don't touch it. Changing the settings and restarting doesn't affect the problem.
