Extending jedit with lisp
Submitted by Anonymous on Sunday, 17 July, 2005 - 14:22
Have anybody information or experience in extending jedit with lisp or some other functional languages?
May be it's possible to write scheme code and then compile it with Kawa http://www.gnu.org/software/kawa/ into java byte-code and integrade with jedit?

There's a plugin (SchemeShell

There's a plugin (SchemeShell) in jEdit's CVS: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/jedit/plugins/SchemeShell/ but it hasn't been updated in a long time and would need some work. Some time ago (maybe a year) I played around with it a bit, to get it to work w/jEdit API changes, but never committed anything or even contacted Mike Dillon about it. If you were interested in working on this, it would be pretty cool! Alternatively, an Armed Bear Common Lisp ( http://armedbear.org/abcl.html ) plugin would be super cool!

The problem is: I don't know Java at all. But I would like to learn common lisp or scheme (and have an editor which would be extended with these languages).

Lisp editor

Hey Andrey,

I'm currently learning Lisp, too.
And while surfing around, I tripped over this document[0], that the people of #lisp at freenode came up with.
And they recommend Emacs with SLIME as the one and only editor.
I don't use Emacs either for my daily work, but for Lisp, I'm gonna use it.
If you want to extend jEdit's Lisp-support, IMHO you'd be better off if you already knew the language and what kind of features were of value to a Lisp programmer.

See you around
and have fun studying Lisp
