Can't resize buffer in Linux

I have been using jEdit for a couple of years in Windows for my PHP development. I'm trying to make the big switch to Linux, and keep using jEdit. The first thing I attempted after installing it is to make the text area larger by dragging the bottom right corner. Well, jEdit expands, but the text area stays the same, vertically and horizontally. I've looked all over for any setting I can find but have found nothing. I can only see 25 lines at a time.

Can anyone set me straight? Is this a Linux thing?

Which Vendor of JRE do you use?
If not Sun, try it with Suns JRE.

That did it Vampire! Through this process I had overlooked some things. I couldn't get the Sun Java to install the last time I tried it, because it was already installed, and I hadn't remembered that I had done it. I simply switched where jEdit pointed by editing the /usr/bin/jedit file. It now works perfectly.

I used Blackdown at ftp://ftp.tux.org/pub/java/JDK-1.4.2/amd64/. I couldn't get the Sun JRE to work properly. I will try again if you think it is the distribution of Java.

Is Blackdown not recommended?
