Location of JDK
Submitted by naugiedoggie on Tuesday, 27 September, 2005 - 01:32
When I try to run JCompiler, it gives me an error saying that my 'java.home' appears to be "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04". Where is it getting that from? It's not from my environmental settings:

powem@PDXPOWEM01 [ ~ ]
--> echo $JAVA_HOME
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_04

c:\src>set
CLASSPATH=C:\Program Files\MySQL\mysql-connector-java-3.1.10;
JAVA_HOME=C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_04

I've looked in various properties files and can't find any place to set this value. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

From starting jEdit

The java.home-property depends on the the java-executable with which you start jEdit. If I remember correctly you should start jEdit with the JDKs java-executable, not with the JREs. Or is your problem the one described in the helpfiles? If so, I would ask why you didn't read them Eye-wink

Problem description

The problem is exactly as I described it. I found nothing like it in the help files. To make matters worse, I edited the file type for 'jar' and changed the 'open' command from the jre version of javaw to the jdk version and it broke jedit altogether. Now, it generates a 'no main class found' error and exits -- even after I changed back the open command. I also set the 'open' command to plain java.exe and it won't run the jar. Right now, the only way jedit runs is if i do 'java -jar jedit.jar' from a command prompt. At least, if I run it from the prompt, jCompiler works.

Thanks for the reply.

Did you maybe omit the "-jar"-option when editing the open-command? The line should be like: "\javaw.exe" -jar "%1" %*
