Jedit Single Instance
Submitted by rem on Sunday, 20 November, 2005 - 23:24
Hi everybody,

Just got to use Jedit and already think it's a great tool... However, I was wondering, is there a way to keep only one instance of Jedit open? If I choose to open a file assigned to Jedit from other location than File / Open I would like to have it within the same instance on another tab.

Thanks a million.

There is a command line option:
-reuseview

It might help you but I'm not sure.

For further assistance on jEdit command line see the page
"Command Line Usage" in the jEdit help.

command line option "-noserver"

Starting jEdit multiple by using only one instance is the standard behavior that You can disable with the command line option "-noserver" (standard is "-server").
When using this option the buffers in two ore more jEdit windows are not the same.

When using the "-newview" option (instead of "-reuseview") a new view is opend instead of a new instance of jEdit. One difference is that opened buffers are the same in all views - so You can detect Your problem.

I don't know how You start jEdit, but I guess that there is
1. not used the -reuseview option and/or
2. used the -noserver option

Look for jedit.bat in the windows directory...
