emacs-like keyboard

Hi, I'd like to change globally all the shortcuts so that an emacs user would be instantly at home
I've seen that it is possible to change any shortcut...but it is too tedious to do it this way for every escape sequence
maybe the best way would be to permit a few styles: jedit, emacs, whatever
is it possible to generate a file with all the actual keyboard shortcuts (in a form that can be reread by jedit Smiling

...from there it should be easy to generate another "style"
any thoughts?

ok actually playing a bit more I saw that the properties file
get updated by *.shortcut o *.shortcut2
options.last=shortcuts must be set too...
actually it seems to be easy to grep out these and append
to the properties file a special set of shortcuts
a plugin would be easy too...
the remainining problem will be to remap plugin escape sequences

i'll let you know about my progress...

Emacs macros

I'm a die-hard Emacs user, but for nearly 7 years, I've spent nearly all my coding time doing Java, so an editor that's customizable in my language of choice is a win. My ideal: A jEdit that makes my fingers feel (mostly) like they're in Emacs.

I have a set of jEdit Emacs BeanShell macros that I'm (slowly) developing; I use them myself. I'm not ready to make them official, since there are more of them I hope to add. However, I will happily "lend" them to anyone else who wants to experiment with them.

These macros, along with a couple other key bindings, help a lot. The macro package is bundled with a default set of key bindings (which they load on startup) and a startup script. You should simply be able to drop them in place, install the startup script, and go.

emacs bindings in jedit

bmc, thanks a lot for your answer; I somehow missed your post... I guess we feel the same; I like to configure the same set of shortcuts for all my tools. For java, it nice to have an editor written in java as you can hook the editor's vm.I like to use small tools too, for a quick edit, like jmacs(joe).I looked into zile also but missed colors. Configuring shortcuts is not so easy: 1) character sets get in the way. (for example I have a spanish keyboard any [Alt X] sequence where X = AltGr Y is a no-go... keytester thinks AltGr is Alt Shift) 2) emacs escapes have the power of a full elisp function behind them. e.g. with jedit C-s has only one meaning (except if somehow you put state in some beanshell function).

Anyway, what I did so far, was to use the plugin 'display shortcuts' to dump a file of shortcuts; then I transformed it with a perl script into a template (that you can stick at the end of the properties file). Not great but a first step to have something that I can transform in a plugin later
