Why do I get two instances of jedit in the taskbar (windows xp)

I had been using jedit without any problems. However, a few days ago I started getting two instances of jedit whenever I start it. That is, there are two applications called jEdit in the task manager, there are two icons that appear in the task bar, etc. The two copies of jedit sort of stay in sync. (They update themselves to have the same files open.) If you quit one, the other quits as well.

I don't have any sessions defined except "default". To my knowledge, I didn't do anything to get this behavior.

I start jedit with the following shortcut:

"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\bin\javaw.exe" -mx96m -jar "C:\Program Files\jEdit\jedit.jar"

I'm running windows xp.

Any suggestions?

Hi Craig,
You wrote "If you quit one, the other quits as well." If "one" means "one window", it's mysterious.

If "one" means "one file", these two windows should be two views of jEdit (these should be startet by two commands !?). Then try this commandline:
"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_04\bin\javaw.exe" -mx96m -jar "C:\Program Files\jEdit\jedit.jar" -reuseview
So every command brings up an already existing view...

Ah, I figured it out

I figured it was something silly. I have two "views" going. I didn't know there was such a thing as a view. I must have inadvertantly chosen "New View" from the View menu.

The solution is to choose "Close View" from the View menu, and my two windows collapse into one. Problem solved.

I tried adding -reuseview to my command line, but I'm still seeing the two windows.

To be more clear, if I choose "Exit" from the file menu in one window of jedit, the other quits as well. When I start using the shortcut you gave (once), I get my two windows. (There's only one "tip of the day" that appears.)

Hi Craig,

"file | exit" exits jEdit and thats why closes all views - that's ok. To close a view choose "View | close" or click the window's close button (most right in the title bar).

Even I figured out that jedit remembers all open views at exit => If You don't want to get more than one view at startup, close all views before exit (closing the last view is the same as exit jedit).
