Cannot type in save dialog
Submitted by scaRFhogg on Wednesday, 15 March, 2006 - 21:36
Sometimes i cannot type in the "File name" field of the save or save as dialog. Selecting text in the field with the mouse does work. But the input field acts as if it was in "read only" mode. Jedit does not give any error message/exception. Also nothing in the activity log. Restarting jedit usually fixes the problem for the next few saves. This is very annoying.

I'm running jedit 4.3pre3 with java jre 1.5.0_05 on kubuntu breezy badger.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem appreciated.
Thank you.

Bug 1190815
by scaRFhogg on Mon, 27/03/2006 - 00:06
Seems like this bug has been reported before:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1190815&group_id=588&atid=100588

I'm still curious if anybody can confirm the workaround I posted before.
Found Workaround

Ok I found out something. When typing in the "File name" field doesn't work I can click on the "Path" combo box, the characters I tried to type in the File name field appear appended to the Path field. After that I can focus the "File name" field again and type as there as usual.

So it seems to be a strange issue with two different fields having the focus at the same time. At least the "File name" field looks as if it has focus but the key events go to the "Path" field. The "Path" field is not updated however. The typed characters don't show there until "Path" field receives focus from the mouse.

Hope the above makes any sense Eye-wink

cvicari, can you confirm this behaviour? It's still not a fix but at least a quicker workaround than having to restart jedit first.

Same thing for me, with jedit 4.2 final on SuSE 10.0+jre 1.5, also (also not always) on the open file dialog. This doesn't happen with jedit on windows XP, and I didn't work it out.

I have write permissions in the target directory. So that doesn't seem to be the problem but maybe jedit *thinks* the directory is write protected though it really isn't?
