Problems with jEdit / Synaptic
Submitted by antzmg on Saturday, 2 September, 2006 - 12:53
I installed rencentlly jEdit, the last debian package.
Maybe, I installed the package wronged? I have Ubuntu 6.06.
I receive the message (in Synaptic):

Unknown Error: exceptions.SystemError (E: The package jedit needs to be reintalled, but I can't find an archive for it)

Can you help me, please?

Do not install jedit on Ubuntu 6.06 - apt-get will break
by petri on Thu, 28/09/2006 - 21:17
I have been now looking for some hours answers on how to fix the situation the friendly jedit .dep package caused. For some reason the installation failed, and now basically apt-get is not working. Hohum...

Any ideas how to fix this:

$ sudo dpkg -C
The following packages are in a mess due to serious problems during
installation. They must be reinstalled for them (and any packages
that depend on them) to function properly:
jedit A real editor for programmers

$ sudo dpkg --force-remove-reinstreq -i jedit_4.3pre6_all.deb
Selecting previously deselected package jedit.
(Reading database ... 154650 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace jedit 4:04.03.06.00 (using jedit_4.3pre6_all.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement jedit ...
dpkg (subprocess): unable to execute old post-removal script: Tiedostoa tai hakemistoa ei ole
dpkg: warning - old post-removal script returned error exit status 2
dpkg - trying script from the new package instead ...
dpkg (subprocess): unable to execute new post-removal script: Tiedostoa tai hakemistoa ei ole (~file not found)
dpkg: error processing jedit_4.3pre6_all.deb (--install):
subprocess new post-removal script returned error exit status 2
dpkg (subprocess): unable to execute new post-removal script: Tiedostoa tai hakemistoa ei ole
dpkg: error while cleaning up:
subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
jedit_4.3pre6_all.deb

In hope that there is some friendly soul out there I refrain from really telling what I think about the jedit installation.
