jEdit no show, reinstall still no show
Submitted by mamboze on Friday, 30 March, 2007 - 01:02
Hi,

I've got a strange problem. I've been using jEdit for a couple of weeks and have been really getting used to it. But last night I went to fire it up but it wouldn't run. So to cut a long story short, I've uninstalled and re-installed jEdit and the Java runtime. I've checked on whether the Java runtime was broken by giving Eclipse a run, no problem there (with no Java installed, Eclipse gave an error message, when re-installed, it ran OK). So I think I've ruled out the Java runtime as the source of the problem (but I may be wrong).

I want to get jEdit running again as it is a very good editor, so any help would be most welcome.

I should have added that I'm using jedit4.3pre9install.exe. Also, I don't think it is a virus or malware problem because the PC runs with a good firewall and anti-virus software and I do the usual malware scans. And I'm not having any other problems.

thanks

How do You start jEdit? In every case a command line is invoked. So:

1. Check the command line for the right pathes: path\javaw.exe -Xms64M -Xmx192M -jar "path\jedit.jar" -reuseview %1

2. If You think the pathes are ok, try to delete Your settings directory (C:\documents ...\.jedit\)

3. report details Smiling

OK, first of all, thanks Robert
It starts up now OK.
the command line in Desktop icon properties was:

"C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_11\bin\javaw.exe" -Xms64M -Xmx192M -jar "D:\editors\jEdit\jedit.jar" -reuseview
adding %1 had no effect (except to put %1 in the windows title),
but deleting the \.jedit\ directory did the trick. Why would that be so?

best regards

Roy
