jEdit Font Courier New != Windows Courier New ?!

I'm using jEdit 4.2pre11 on Windows XP.
Text Area font is Courier New 12.
Why does it look completely different (may I say ugly?) from the Windows one?
Can I use the Windows font?

Kerning and Linespacing.

Maybe the kerning and line spacing is a bit off in jEdit, but the font characters look the same to me.

Personally I like it a bit more compact anyway as courier in Word takes up too much space. If you're looking for a good monospaced font in jEdit, I recommend the "Consolas" or "Monospaced" fonts. The Consolas looks best with Anti Aliasing on (subpixel), and I think "Monospaced" looks best without it.
