copy and paste
Submitted by jhuang22 on Sunday, 14 June, 2015 - 09:25
I have used jEdit to create web code file in HTML for several years. I met this problem recently and do not know why. When I copy a paragraph and try to paste in jEdit, the whole paragraph become one long line. I paste the same thing to other text editor like Microsoft word or open office writer, it do not have this problem. I do not have this problem in jEdit before, I even can not remember when this problem started.

Please help.

Hi,
some questions:

1. Where do You copy the "paragraph" from?
2. Does the source code contain line breaks? If yes, which ones (Unix, Windows)?
3. Which jEdit version do You use? XML plugin installed? Which edit mode?
4. Steps to reproduce?

Hi,

1. I copy paragraph from every where: such as web, Microsoft word, open office and Chinese text edit.
2. Only one Chinese text edit contain line break, It does not have problem if copy from here. So, right now I have to paste every thing from other source to this editor, then copy, paste to jEdit. It is not convenient. But it is not necessary in past time, I do not know why. May be jEdit 4.1 is fine for me.
3. I use jEdit 5.1 serve background mode right now, programmer's text editor
I do not know what is XML plugin, how to install it?

Hi,

it's still not clear for me. I meant: Do You copy HTML code or rendered html from a browser? And if You copy code, does it contain line break characters (x0A or/and x0D)?

The XML plugin can be installed as any other plugin via Plugin Manager. May be You have had it installed in jEdit 4 but not in jEdit 5?

How to install XML plugin?

The HTML code is already in jEdit and I will change a little bit each time based on different situation. So I never copy HTML code to jEdit, I only copy the Chinese article which will show in web to the JEdit. In the past time, jEdit could auto make line break for the source I paste no matter it include line break or not. Now it can not do it any more.

May be you are right I need to install XML plugin. Please tell me how to install it. Thanks for your help.
