New Menu Entry in VFSBrowser
Submitted by Chemluth H. on Thursday, 28 August, 2008 - 14:23
Hello,
is it possible to add a menu item to the VFSBrowser context-menu (where stuff like rename/delete etc. is located) ?

Greetings

I'm sure it's possible, but you'd probably have to update the jEdit core. If you have a specific request, you can definitely add a feature request ticket in the source forge tracker.

Hey, thanks for the answer.
I am not sure if we understand each other:
I want to write a plugin, which uses the VFSBrowser. And only in my plugin, I want to have a additional button in the menu, so I think there is no need to update the core.
I just don't know how I can customize the menu.

Ah, my apologies for my misunderstanding.

Still, I'm sure it's quite possible.

You should bring this up in the jEdit Users mailing list since there are more developers watching that list than this forum.

I took a quick look at the VFSBrowser code and I don't see any obvious hook-ins to the context menu. If you want a separate menu for your specific plugin under the "Plugins" dropdown, this is pretty easy to do.

At the top of VFS browser there are 3 menu buttons, one of them is "Plugins". This is meant to show menu items or whole menus provided by plugins. The same menu is found in the VFS browser's context menu.

For me, there are entries for PMDPlugin, SQL plugin and HelperLauncher plugin. Maybe You should have a look at the source code of these pugins.
