Syntax highlighting problem with Rails 2 erb files
Submitted by mamboze on Sunday, 28 September, 2008 - 00:44
Hi,
I'm using Rails 2 on jEdit and the syntax highlighing for the .erb files is not working consistently across the various code elements. In fact, it looks pretty weird and is very distracting. The other Rails files are OK. The Ruby plugin is installed. Since the .erb files contain html tags and generate html code for display, maybe html style highlighting would be OK. I suppose this would be a config file issue but I don't know what commands need to be used.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I apologize for necroing this

I apologize for necroing this thread up but I'm wondering if anyone has since found a solution for this? It looks like a completely new mode should be created with a compilation of ruby/html, but I had a lot of trouble figuring out how to do it. I read the other threads you made mamboze, and that led me here, I suppose. My problem is what you posted above here. It's strictly the syntax highlighting. It has huge problems with the = equal signs. Particularly at <%= and <%=h. Everything just turns pink between equal signs, which is fairly useless =) Ruby (.rb) looks great in jedit, but the erb files with markup just look like a complete mess. It would be nice to have something a little better than basic text or html mode. Thanks!

some more necroing on the .erb syntax highlighting issue

Sorry for reviving such an old thread, but just to round off the .erb issue, I found a solution here

Note the correction in one of the comments
rhtml File Name Glob *.{rhtml,html,erb}

This works (at least for me). I found that I had to do a rename then original name cycle to get the highlighting working properly with existing erb files.
