setting JAVA_HOME

hi guys

when i run jedit 4.3pre16 on ubuntu 8.10 linux, i get a warning

Warning: $JAVA_HOME environment variable not set! Consider setting it.
Attempting to locate java...
Found a virtual machine at: /usr/bin/java...

and then jedit loads.

how do i set the $JAVA_HOME environment variable, ie. which file do i edit, and what line of code do i add?

Open ~/.bashrc. Enter: ex

Open ~/.bashrc.

Enter:
export JAVA_HOME="[replace with your path to the jdk]"
export PATH="$JAVA_HOME/bin:$PATH"


Save the file, and reboot. Smiling

thanks, for anyone else reading, in my case "[replace with your path to the jdk]" was just "/usr/".

In hind sight, if you're using the same JDK as Ubuntu installed, you don't need that second export (the "PATH" one). Sorry.

i am facing the same problem but am not able to do the necessary changes. can u b a little more elaborate as to how to make those changes? i am not a programmer but user. i am planing to use the 'lazy8ledger' plugin for accounting purposes. thanks
 
You need to modify your .bash

You need to modify your .bashrc script under your home directory.

In jEdit, open the .bashrc file under your home directory.

Add the lines above and save it.

Then reboot your machine.
