How Do I Set a Default Edit Mode for a Specific File Extension?
Submitted by Sledged on Sunday, 25 January, 2009 - 04:09
Title says it all. Example: How do I get files with the extension *.foo to automatically have the contents highlighted as though it were a FORTRAN source file?

Thanks,

D

This is done in the catalog file. I'm not sure there's any way to do this inside of the UI.

Look at the documentation explaining creating your own edit modes.

That was actually the first place I looked. But it only allows you to set the default editing mode for all unregistered file extensions. There's no way to set the editing mode for one specific extension, except to edit the catalog file directly, and many thanks to elberry for pointing that one out. Also, it was nice the to see that jEdit processed the catalog when I saved it, so the changes took effect immediately, instead of having to restart jEdit.

Thanks again,

D

When You choose a mode from the drop down list "Change settings for mode" and then disable the check box "Use default settings" You can change the text field "File name glob" (like all other settings). This change will be applied immediately and is working perfect for me!

In the case You have already loaded a file for witch should be changed the edit mode, You have to RELOAD this buffer.
