More than one buffer for a file in one view
Submitted by weberjn on Wednesday, 1 July, 2009 - 11:24
Hi,

sometimes I'd need for large files to have the file in more than one buffer to be able to have a cursor at several positions in the file.
e.g. I'd like to have one buffer that shows the start of the file and one where the cursor is positioned at the end.
Is this possible?
I have read http://community.jedit.org/?q=node/view/3870
but I'd not like to have several views.

Thanks,
Juergen

Split View

A buffer in jEdit is normally a representation of a physical file - this is a one-to-one relation. So, if You want to see two ore more regions of the same file (alias buffer) at the same time, You definitely don't want to have two buffers but two views to the same buffer!

There are 2 options to achieve this:
- open more than one "jEdit views" (alias windows), seems You don't want this
- split one "jEdit view" horizontally and/or vertically into several editpanes via the view menu. In every single editpane You can activate every buffer You want.

Second Buffer

I intensively use BufferTabs and RecentBufferSwitcher plugins so neither Views nor splitting is a good option for me: another view is not within the reach of cited plugins and a split pane does not use the full screen (and is not reachable by cited plugins either).

So, I suggest as enhancement request that you can open a file in several buffers.

Multiple buffers per file

I don't understand your issue

I don't understand your issue with Split Buffer?

Is it because you use the BufferTabs plugin, and the tabs take up too much space on top of each buffer?
