Call "Complete Word" automatically after Nth letter?
Submitted by DVV on Wednesday, 11 November, 2009 - 17:40
I believe such question was asked before, but I could not find the answer, sorry.
How can I make jEdit to call/execute its built-in function "Complete Word" for every word after I type, for example, 3 first characters of the word? You see, typing Ctrl+B for each word is tiresome, why don't jEdit itself "call" this function after Nth first letters of word have been typed?

P.S.
I've tried the TextAutocomplete plugin, but it seems to be not what I need. All I need is the standard functionality of Ctrl+B but without Ctrl+B typed manually.
Amazing editor, by the way!

Let me ask in different way:

Let me ask in different way: is it possible to write some code/script/macro which would be executed automatically each time when a character is typed? Such code/script/macro would do the job I described above: check number of characters in the last word typed and call Ctrl+B if necessary. Is it possible? If so, where to dig?

SideKick Plugin

The SideKick Plugin, witch essentially provides an infrastructure for code parser plugins, offers an option "parse on key stroke". It also offers options for code completion, inclusive "Immediately complete if possible". You see: it's definitely possible to write such code - but I doubt this is a thing for macros.

The code completion via SideKick is provided by the plugins that provide SideKick parsers. They can be different from the buit-in completion. The "ctags" parser (from CtagsSideKick plugin) i.e. automatically suggests tokens from the mode definition file...
